Price Changes, Crowd Sale Youtube Series, Website Upgrade

logo

Hello Community

Our team has been busy preparing for Crafter Con and Protospiel Madison. It's only 6 weeks away, so be sure to get your badges and book your hotel. We have a few announcements to share and then you'll find more details about the events.

Pricing Changes

Just over a year ago we had to raise prices due to inflation. Unfortunately, things have not improved and everything has only gotten more expensive. We've all watched the news and seen how grain and fuel prices have gone up worldwide. These increases in food and shipping costs have impacted the price of almost everything. For example, our card stock manufacturer (plus shipping) has increased the cost of raw materials by over 30% this year. And we've seen other similar changes in chipboard that we use for making boards and boxes.

If our costs have gone up, we know that our employees' costs have gone up as well. We've got a great team that works hard to make your games a reality and it's important we take care of them. This price increase also allows us to provide better healthcare for our staff. This will help them stay healthy and reduce financial burden.

So with that, you probably want to know 2 things: when and how much?

Cards and rigid boxes will be going up around 30-35%. Paper boxes will be going up 35-40%. We got a 1-time deal on thick chipboard for folding boards and those will only be going up 5%, but will likely rise in the future. Plastic products like acrylic and 3d printed material will also be going up by about 5%.

These pricing changes will be going into effect on November 21.

Nobody likes to see price increases. We don't want to do this. But for the health of our business and our employees we must raise prices. If you're running a kickstarter that launched before these price increases, we'll work with you to do our best to hold to our old prices. The easiest way to do that is for you to place your order before the place changes go into effect. Likewise, if you want a better price on your crowd sale, make sure it starts before the price increases go into effect and we'll honor the old pricing.

Thank you for your understanding. If there's anything we can do to help, please reach out to us at info@thegamecrafter.com.

Website Upgrade

We recently upgraded our website and there's a few new features we wanted to make you aware of.

  • Apple Pay is now supported during checkout. You must be using the Safari browser and have it setup in order for the Apple Pay button to appear on the credit card billing page.

  • Google Pay is also now supported during checkout. You must be using a Chromium browser (Chrome, Brave, MS Edge, etc..) and be signed in for the Google Pay button to appear on the credit card billing page.

  • Our checkout process now supports 3D Secure (3DS). This is for extra fraud protection and it requires customers to complete an additional verification step with the card issuing bank during checkout. The Strong Customer Authentication regulation in Europe requires the use of 3DS for card payments, although it's still optional in other regions.

Lunchtime Game Challenge, Crafter Con, Protospiel Madison

logo

Hello Community

We survived another crazy summer of game conventions and it was great to see so many of you. Now that we've made it through to the other side, we took a deep breath and shifted our focus towards our own events in December. Keep reading for more information about a new game design contest and our upcoming events.

Lunchtime Game Challenge

Lunchtime Game Challenge

New TGC Game Design Contest: Lunchtime Game Challenge!

Eat Lunch and Board Game is a podcast dedicated to reviewing games that can be played over a lunch hour. In today's work environment, especially as we are all coming back to the office, what better way to get to meet, or reintroduce yourself to, your coworkers than over a board game?

Adam Collins, host of Eat Lunch and Board Game, has started lunchtime gaming at his current job, and a few prior places as well. He has strived to get people out of their cubicles, away from YouTube video watching, and to the game table to breakdown walls and barriers. Gaming together over lunch has helped to get to know each other, build lines of communication, and make the workspace a little smaller.

In his last position, he met his now business partner in Bearded Board Games. They design and develop games, the first of which was designed to be played in a lunch hour. It was even playtested by other coworkers in the office.

Adam is looking for a new game to play with his coworkers over lunch. The game should incorporate player interaction. Theme and mechanics are open. Player count and play time are of the utmost importance here. The game should be playable in 45 minutes so set up and tear down can take it to 60 minutes, and it should be playable by at least 2 to 4 players. Six players would be the preferred. As gaming groups grow, everyone wants to play for the trophy.

The Game Crafter at Gen Con 2022

logo

Hello Community

Gen Con starts this week, (Aug 4-7), and we wanted to share the 4 special things we're doing there. We look forward to seeing everyone! Note: This newsletter is focused on Gen Con and then the next newsletter will jump back into new products, features, and upcoming events.

Board Game Candy Booth (2551)

Screen-Shot-2022-06-23-at-11.57.59-AM.png

We are running our Board Game Candy booth again at Gen Con! This year the booth number is 2551. We'll have 300 different board game pieces and parts to buy. We sell them by weight at $.25/gram. Fill up an entire bag and get 50% off your order. We'll be keeping track of the 3 largest orders and they will earn TGC shop credit at the end of the show! See our booth location on the map below.

TGC Community Game Night

TGC Community Game Night

This will be our 8th annual TGC Community Game Night! The event runs from 8pm-midnight on Friday, August 5th and will be held in the White River G & H Ballrooms inside the JW Marriott hotel. From the convention center, use the bridge to get to JW Marriott Hotel. You will arrive on the 2nd floor. Keep walking straight until you see an escalator going down to the first floor. Then you'll take a left and the White River Ballrooms will be on your right. Here's a map below to help you find it.

jw-marriott-white-river-ballroom-map-how-to-get-there.jpg

This is an official Gen Con event and so you'll need tickets to participate. Right now we only have 3 event tickets left, but we did ask Gen Con events team to see if they could add a few more tickets. However, you are welcome to stop by with generic tickets and you can join us as long as we have room. Our event space is comprised of 2 ballrooms that they merged together and there's 22 round tables available.

Bring your prototypes to play with others and be willing to playtest the games of other designers too. It's basically like a mini protospiel, so feel free to setup your game or sit down with other people and start playing. It's open format and there are no reserved tables or spaces.

TGC Community Social

TGC Community Social

We are hosting our 9th annual TGC Community Social event at Gen Con on Saturday, Aug 6th at 7pm. This is a great opportunity to meet other people from The Game Crafter community and enjoy some tasty food and beverages. This is not an official Gen Con event and does not require a ticket. We just ask that you RSVP to our facebook event or email us if you plan to attend. (This way the venue knows how many people to expect and how much space to reserve.) We hope to see you there!

TGC Game Designer Table @ FEPH

TGC-Designer-Table-FEPH.png

As we've done in past years, The Game Crafter is donating a bunch of board game pieces, assorted blank game components, and promo cards on our table in the First Exposure Playtest Hall (FEPH). Tavis won't be running a table there this year, but you'll see a black skirted table by the entrance that says "TGC Designer Table". You're welcome to grab some of the components if you're a game designer in our community or you are participating in the FEPH. To be fair to everyone, we try to put out new stuff each day so there's enough to go around. Check back the next day if it gets cleaned out.

We do this at Gen Con and many other events because we love to support indie game designers and design events. We appreciate our community and this is one way we can give back. :)
